Full Description

Eight Immortals, or in Chinese Ba Xian 八仙, is prestigiously ancient as a Phoenix Dan Cong cultivar and it nestles in the subtype under the aromatic category Orchid Aroma. Cultivated at an elevation of around 1000 meters (which is high mountain for Phoenix Mountain), this Eight Immortals is from the village that’s known for this cultivar, Li Zai Ping village.

Harvested in spring 2025 and rested for a year, this Ba Xian has developed a beautifully balanced character after being charcoal roasted again in 2026. The initial brightness of a fresh harvest has softened, allowing its floral and fruity notes to blend into a smoother, more harmonious expression.

The fragrance opens with a bouquet of delicate flowers, ripe fruit, and a subtle sweetness reminiscent of honey and nectar. Its liquor is smooth and silky, carrying layers of orchid, peach, citrus, and gentle spice, supported by the mineral depth characteristic of Phoenix Mountain teas.

Ba Xian is valued for its refined complexity rather than overwhelming intensity. Compared with some more flamboyant Dan Cong cultivars, it offers a graceful and balanced experience—aromatic yet elegant, expressive yet never sharp. As the tea unfolds across multiple infusions, the lingering sweetness (hui gan 回甘) and mountain character (shan yun 山韵) become increasingly apparent.

With a year of rest, this 2025 harvest shows greater integration and softness, making it an excellent choice for those who appreciate the evolving beauty of Phoenix Dan Cong.

    Across the sea

Ba Xian or 8 Immortals usually oscillates between gardenia like sweetness, or cream heavy woodsy notes. This Ba Xian leans more towards floral. If Duck Sh*t/Gardenia and Almond Aroma from this site had a child, this would definitely be the result. This tea did really well with 185 – 200 degree water, 1 second wash, followed by 3, 5, 3, 7, 10, 15, 20, 30+ second steeps or alternatively turns out crazy good as a cold brew. Aroma: graham crackers, magnolia, yogurt Tasting Notes: orchid, muscatel, orange, cream, nutmeg, floral honey, aloeswood, cream Mouthfeel: medium thickness, aloe and cream on the front, floral sweetness in the back, lingering nutmeg honey aftertaste.
