Full Description

Eight Immortals, or in Chinese Ba Xian 八仙, is prestigiously ancient as a Phoenix Dan Cong cultivar and it nestles in the subtype under the aromatic category Orchid Aroma. Cultivated at an elevation of 1000 meters (which is high mountain for Phoenix Mountain), this Eight Immortals is from ancient trees around 200 years old. Most high quality Eight Immortals are at least from high altitude areas in Phoenix Mountain, if not from old trees. It’s one of the most venerable Dan Cong tea tree types and one of the oldest aromatic categories.

Cultivated in mineral rich soil, this tea thrives in the coastal environment in Canton province on Phoenix Mountain. Both wild and farmed, these tea trees can reach the ripe old age of 200 years. This special type of Oolong is recognized for its highly distinctive natural aroma that mimics certain flower or fruit aroma. Believed to be the ancestor of all Oolong teas, it’s well-known for its ten aromatic categories and its rich and complex flavor.

Local tea scholars and connoisseurs from China study and organize the hand-picked tea into hundreds of aromatic subgroups. Its aroma is never artificially added or perfumed but exclusively cultivated, and each aroma comes from the tea plant’s natural aromatic compound.

    Across the sea

Ba Xian or 8 Immortals usually oscillates between gardenia like sweetness, or cream heavy woodsy notes. This Ba Xian leans more towards floral. If Duck Sh*t/Gardenia and Almond Aroma from this site had a child, this would definitely be the result. This tea did really well with 185 – 200 degree water, 1 second wash, followed by 3, 5, 3, 7, 10, 15, 20, 30+ second steeps or alternatively turns out crazy good as a cold brew. Aroma: graham crackers, magnolia, yogurt Tasting Notes: orchid, muscatel, orange, cream, nutmeg, floral honey, aloeswood, cream Mouthfeel: medium thickness, aloe and cream on the front, floral sweetness in the back, lingering nutmeg honey aftertaste.
